Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a prestigious, private research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Founded in 1861, just as the United States was experiencing an increased demand for educated technology professionals, by the 1940s, MIT had become internationally renowned for the scientific and technological training. Perhaps more than any other institution, MIT proved that mathematics and science had a place in undergraduate education and in the nation’s progress.

MIT led the way in teaching such fields as electrical engineering (1882), aeronautical engineering (1914), and nuclear physics (1935). In 2013, MIT, home to 70 Nobel laureates, was ranked second in the world according to the United Kingdom-based Times Higher Education world reputation rankings.
