On a daily basis, our lungs are exposed to wear and tear by injurious agents, including proteolytic enzymes and chemical oxidants. Despite protective mechanisms, our lungs are subjected to gradual, irreversible age-related deterioration of their function. Lung diseases are responsible for a tremendous amount of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It has been a challenge for scientists to fight against incurable diseases of lungs. There are number of diseases that are the focus of regenerative medicine involving treatment with the help of stem cells, including lung fibrosis, emphysema, acute respiratory distress syndrome, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, and pulmonary artery hypertension.
