Robert S. Langer (born in 1948) is the David H. Koch Institute Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a pioneer and leader in the field of polymers for drug delivery, gene therapy, and tissue engineering and developed new biomaterial-based approaches for controlled growth and differentiation of stem cells. Dr. Langer earned his Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University (1970), his Doctor of Science degree from MIT (1974), both in chemical engineering, and has been awarded honorary doctorates from more than 20 leading universities worldwide.

Dr. Langer has authored over 1,250 articles and is the most cited engineer in history. He has been granted 1,050 patents, which have been licensed or sublicensed to more than 250 pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, and medical device companies. Dr. Langer ...
