Illinois has taken a leading role in promoting stem cell research. This support has included providing its own funding support for embryonic and adult stem cell research. As interest in stem cell research continues to grow, it seems likely that Illinois will continue to be at its forefront.

Background

Over 220 different types of cells make up the human body. For more than 30 years, physicians have used stem cell therapy to treat cancer patients undergoing certain treatments.
