The state of Idaho has taken no official position on the issue of stem cell research, and no laws exist that either support or prohibit stem cell research. There are no provisions for allotting state funds to support stem cell research. Even though Idaho is in a position to provide a strong foundation for research at institutions such as the University of Idaho and Boise State University, the political environment has prevented stem cell researchers from choosing to work in Idaho.
