Gonads, Male: Current Research on Isolation or Production of Therapeutic Cells

The extracellular matrix, which includes the basement membrane, plays a major role in the self-renewal and proliferation of stem cells. Various studies have been conducted to determine the optimal methods for isolating and/or producing spermatogonial stem cells that could eventually be used for the treatment of male-specific reproductive conditions, such as infertility. Previous studies have clearly shown that spermatogonial stem cells could be classified into six groups based on their required culture method. Information regarding the optimal culture conditions of spermatogonial stem cells could therefore be critical in the successful production of therapeutic germ cells.
