Do No Harm: The Coalition of Americans for Research Ethics

Do No Harm is a coalition of researchers, bioethicists, medical and academic professionals, and other concerned individuals who advocate the ethical pursuit of stem cell research and regenerative medicine. The group’s philosophy is guided by conservative Christian principles, specifically, Christian humanism and belief that all individuals have value, as evidenced by the sacrifice of Christ’s death. Building upon this moral framework, the coalition rejects use of embryos in research as a violation of the core principle that each human life is important. Do No Harm opposes human cloning and all stem cell research involving embryonic destruction. The group takes the stance that destruction of embryonic life is unnecessary for scientific advancement and advocates use of alternatives, including adult, cord blood, and pluripotent stem cell research.
