Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, The

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research on spinal cord injury and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis. The roots of the organization can be traced to 1982 and the founding of the Stifel Paralysis Foundation, which later merged with the American Paralysis Association. In 1999, the older association merged with the Christopher Reeve Foundation, begun by actor Christopher Reeve after he was paralyzed from the neck down in a 1995 riding accident, and became known as the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, with Reeve as chairperson.
