The International Raëlian Movement (IRM) was founded in 1976 by Claude Vorilhon (b. 1946), a French racing car driver and journalist. Claiming a membership of over 80,000, it is arguably the world’s largest religion based on flying saucers (unidentified flying objects). Vorilhon states, he was dubbed Raël by the Elohim, who chose him to be their messenger, the “Last of 40 Prophets” in the “Age of Apocalypse.”

The Raëlians espouse the ancient astronaut hypothesis: that the earth’s first civilizations were founded by extra-terrestrials. Raël, in his writings, deconstructs and demystifies the myth of Genesis in the Bible.
