Nation of Islam

The roots of the Nation of Islam (NOI) began in the 1930s with the teachings of Wallace Fard Muhammad. The NOI believed him to be the Messiah (or the Mahdi) that the world has waited for a couple of millennia under the monikers of “the Second Coming of Jesus, the Christ, Jehovah, God, and the Son of Man.” Upon Fard Muhammad’s disappearance amid mysterious circumstances in 1934, his protégé Elijah Muhammad took over the movement until his demise in 1975. The group teaches that Blacks were the original humans and that they were Muslims.
