Marian Apparitional Movements

For nearly 2,000 years, people have claimed to see visions or apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Typically these visions appear to only one or possibly several people, called seers. In rarer cases, many people may report seeing apparitional phenomena. The so-called miracle of the Sun that occurred in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917, was the culmination of a series of apparitions in which a crowd of over 30,000 people allegedly saw the Sun change color, spin, and dance through the sky. People in the vicinity of apparitions have also reported other miraculous events, such as inexplicable healings or rosaries changing into gold.
