LGBTQI* People and Religion

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and intersex identities are increasingly indicated by multiple, diverse acronyms and usages, such as LGBTQI*, where the asterisk indicates openness to a fuller breadth of sexualities than indicated by the acronym. The scope of diversity that exists within and across these categories is continually being expanded and fleshed out; however, the negative experiences regarding diverse sexualities continue to be a reality across national and international contexts.

Religion is frequently seen as the primary source of constraint when it comes to sexuality and expressions of sexuality, both in public and in private.
