The field of cultural studies has become an important academic discipline within the social sciences and humanities in the last few decades. It concerns itself with questions relating to the nature of cultural practices within different political, social, historical, and religious contexts. In this mode of existence, culture is not fixed or static. Rather, it is transmutable and has transformative power, but it can also be illusory or transitory, operating also at the realm of the imagination and perception.
