Charisma is an extraordinary personal gift of a religious or political leader. In the religious field, it concerns particularly the figure of the prophet. Max Weber came up with the theory of charisma as a factor of innovation in contrast with the religious establishment. The charisma legitimates the authority of prophets and their power of communication that changes both the cognitive map and the emotional attitudes of people influenced by a traditional system of belief and practices. The power of the charisma destabilizes the collective mentality shaped over the past by a dominant and institutionalized religion.
