Society for the Scientific Study of Religion

The Society for the Scientific Study of Religion (SSSR) is an interdisciplinary professional association of scholars who study religious phenomena. It is based in the United States but has an international membership. Its meetings are conducted in English, and its quarterly journal, Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, is published in English. The membership consists largely of social and behavioral scientists, with sociologists more strongly represented than other disciplinary groups. There is a considerable overlap in membership with two other associations: the Association for the Sociology of Religion and the Religious Research Association (RRA). At the present time, it holds its annual meeting jointly with the RRA.
