SPSS
SPSS is a software package (that originally stood for Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) published by IBM. It is a potent tool for quantitative researchers to use to accurately analyze numeric data. Because of its user-friendly interface (no programming is necessary and all commands are menu-driven), SPSS is likely the most popular statistical package for students and quantitative researchers. In this entry, the purpose and functions of the three main file types within SPSS are reviewed, and some tips for using each are provided.
