Social Network Analysis Software Packages

Social network analysis (SNA) has been gaining momentum since the beginning of the 21st century in many fields, including sociology, economics, anthropology, educational research and other fields, and more recently, in pedagogical practice. Advances in computer technology and software applications have been a driving factor for this growth. This entry presents two SNA software packages, one designed for researchers and one geared toward educators and practitioners. The first package, UCINET, developed in 2002 by Lin Freeman, Martin Everett, and Steve Borgatti, is a software package for the analysis of social network data.
