Gender-Based Violence in Athletics

In 1993, the UN Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women officially defined the term gender-based violence (GBV) in Article 1 as any act or threat of acts related to public or private arbitrary deprivations of liberty or coercion that results in the psychological, physical, sexual suffering or harm of women. Athletics is defined as games, sports, or exercises that athletes engage in. In this entry, GBV is related to athletics.
