Estrogen is a sex hormone that is produced in the female ovaries, adrenal gland, placenta, fat tissue, and male testes. Estrogen is made up of a class of hormones consisting of estriol, estradiol, and estrone. Found in the largest amounts in a female’s ovaries, estrogen is responsible for the changes that occur during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. Estrogen also affects the overall health of both females and males.
