Education and Gender: Overview

Sex and gender inequality in education are global and pervasive issues creating significant challenges and barriers for women across the world. Educational access affects income, employment, social status, social mobility, social positioning, power, and well-being. As the world continues to identify strategies to include women in education, U.S. public education explores effective and inclusive practices for sex and gender equality and gender integration. In the United States, education puts the nation at a competitive level while offering training to all (i.e., males, females, transgender people, lower/upper classes, racial/ethnic minorities, and Whites), but educational access, learning resources, and student experiences are not the same for all groups.
