Campus Rape

The term campus rape is used to describe sexual rape of a student attending an institution of higher learning, whether the assault took place on or off the college or university campus. Rape is legally defined as nonconsensual oral, anal, or vaginal penetration obtained by force, by threat of bodily harm, or when the survivor is incapable of giving consent. Consent involves a knowing, informed, voluntary, and mutual decision to engage in sexual activity. Silence, in and of itself, cannot be interpreted as consent. Consent can be given by words or actions, as long as those words or actions create mutually understandable permission regarding the conditions of sexual activity.
