Women’s Issues: Overview

Women have historically been mistreated as a result of the social conception of gender. Women have unique concerns that need to be understood when addressing gender inequality and mental health needs. This entry briefly examines the history of gender-based oppression, sexism, the influence of media on sexism, women in the workplace, violence against women, mental health and gender, and clinical implications.
