Transphobia

Transphobia is commonly defined as a dislike, disdain, disgust for, or fear of people who are, or appear to be, transgender. At its core, transphobia is an attitude of prejudice. When acted on, this prejudice is known as discrimination. Negative attitudes toward transgender people are one of the core reasons why transgender people face consistent, pervasive, and severe prejudice that has a significant impact on their ability to live and function in the world. When comparing rates of prejudice, transgender people experience prejudice and discrimination more often and in more extreme ways than people who are lesbian, gay, or bisexual.
