Physical Assault, Male Survivors of

Physical assault against males has been a neglected research area. Much of society still focuses on males as perpetrators of physical assault and fails to acknowledge that men are victims as well. Until recently, the research focus on survivors of physical assault has been primarily on females. However, scholars are starting to shift a portion of their attention to male survivors of physical assault, as rates of physical assault against males are greater than once believed. Physical assault against males comes in different forms, including hitting, biting, punching, stabbing, burning, and scratching. Physical assault may also involve more than one perpetrator, and oftentimes, physical assault occurs alongside sexual assault.
