Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Gender

Narcissism is a multifaceted personality trait characterized by inflated self-concept, extremely high self-esteem, a preoccupation with the self and one’s own interests, and unrealistically positive beliefs about one’s abilities, appearance, and status. In short, narcissism is an obsession with the self in positive terms. Although the term is used in popular culture to refer to any instance in which a person seems vain, entitled, self-absorbed, or arrogant, in the psychological literature, the term is often used much more precisely.
