Men’s Studies

Men’s studies is an interdisciplinary field devoted to topics that involve men, masculinity, masculinities, feminism, pro-feminism, gender, justice, equity, and politics. Although not a relatively new field of study, men’s studies has begun to grow and expand on academic campuses and in professional settings around the world. Men’s studies was formed largely in response to, and as a critique of, an emerging men’s rights movement, and as such, it has been taught in academic settings only since the 1970s. In many academic settings, men’s studies is taught as a direct parallel to women’s studies or as a part of a larger gender studies program. Thereby, faculty members in gender studies departments tend to be engaged in advocacy work associated with feminist politics or gender equality. ...
