Latina/o Americans and Transgender Identity

Latina/o (Latinx) Americans are a very diverse group of people, and country-of-origin and cultural differences between multiple ethnic groups create significant intragroup diversity. Each country has differences in language, colonization, history, economy, immigration challenges, and sociopolitical environment, among others, thus making generalizations difficult at best. Latinxs are considered the fastest-growing ethnicity in the United States, according to the 2010 U.S. Census data. On immigration to the United States, Latinx Americans also differ in the level of enculturation and how identified they remain with their families’ countries of origin.
