Karolinska Institute (Sweden)

The Karolinska Institute (Karolinska Institutet) was established in 1810 in Kungsholmen in the western part of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. It is the third-oldest medical school in the country, preceded by Uppsala University and Lund University. The Karolinska Institute focuses all its research on medicine and accounts for more than 40 percent of all medical research conducted in Sweden.

Karolinska Institute is considered one of the world’s top medical schools. The Top Universities Web site ranked Karolinska Institute as the world’s fifth-best university for the study of pharmacy and pharmacology and 10th-best for medical and life sciences for the 2014–2015 academic year; the British Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked Karolinska the 44th-best university in the world on its list of 400 top universities ...
