Hospital administrative data is data generated by the health care delivery system and consists of an assortment of information on hospital stays and the costs associated with such stays. Administrative data may be stored in various databases and informs the hospital on performance measures such as cost-efficiency and clinical outcomes, and on areas in need of process improvement efforts. Hospital administrative data is also used in quality outcomes research studies, as it provides comprehensive details of patient stays and, depending on the level of standardization, may be used in studies comparing clinical and financial outcomes across analogous hospital facilities.
