Heroin

Heroin remains one of the most popular legal and illicit preparations within the opioid family of substances. As a substance, it is classified as a narcotic analgesic and used in the management of pain within the fields of general medicine and health care. Heroin is a simple preparation of diamorphine and comes from the larger drug family of opioids. All opioids are extracted from the opium poppy and are further refined using semi- and fully synthetic methods to produce derivatives such as heroindiamorphine. The organic product used to produce heroin-diamorphine is opium.
