Denmark

Denmark is a nation of 5.6 million inhabitants. It is one of the Nordic welfare states that traditionally have comprehensive tax-financed social welfare and health services. Danish citizens have a right to free medical service for most physical and mental conditions from general practitioners, hospitals, and specialists. Drugs prescribed from general practitioners and specialists are available with a public subsidy, while drugs obtained during hospitalization are free.

The pharmaceutical industry plays an important role in Denmark. Pharmaceuticals are one of the largest export items from both smaller and larger companies. Novo Nordisk, Lundbeck, and LEO Pharma are the largest Danish pharmaceutical companies. These three companies produce a range of different pharmaceutical products, specializing in drugs for diabetes, brain diseases, dermatology, and thrombosis.
