Cuba is an industrial developing country made up of one main island and several smaller islands located in the Caribbean Sea. Cuba is made up of 14 provinces, divided into 169 municipalities, with an estimated area of 111,000 square kilometers. Its population is approximately 11.2 million, and the sex ratio (men per hundred women) is 101. Cuba is a lower-middle-income group country. The proportion of health budget to gross domestic product is 6.3 percent. In 2009, Cuba had a qualified health workforce of 329,669 personnel, with about 2,993 pharmacists.
