Austria

Austria is a landlocked country in central Europe, sharing borders with the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland. It has an area of 83,871 square kilometers (32,382.8 square miles) and a population of 8.2 million (2014), of whom 67.7 percent live in urban areas. Austria joined the European Union in 1995. Vienna is the capital and primary urban area, with a population of 1.7 million. Austria has a high standard of living, with a gross domestic product (GDP) per capita of $42,600 in 2013 (22nd highest in the world); Austria is classified by the World Bank as a high-income country.
