World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is a private law foundation chartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, with headquarters located in Montreal, Canada. It is focused on promoting, coordinating, and leading a collaborative worldwide effort for doping-free sports. Legally, WADA is a private law foundation as defined under the provisions of the Swiss Civil Code. The entity was formed through initiation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), governed by a constitutive instrument and Articles 80 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code. It was established as a foundation under private law with the vision by the European Union that it should eventually evolve into an agency governed under public law.
