Singapore, officially known as the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign city-state composed of islands in southeastern Asia situated between Malaysia and Indonesia. Its location gives it a strategic advantage as a logistics hub for southeast Asian pharmaceutical research and development. With an area of about 293 square miles (710 square kilometers), it is one of the smallest countries in the world, highly urbanized, and dependent on land reclamation to expand its size. The United States has had a bilateral free trade agreement with Singapore since 2004.
