Safety Pharmacology Society

The Safety Pharmacology Society (SPS) was formed in 2001 as a nonprofit organization. Its mission is to promote application, development, knowledge, and training in safety pharmacology, defined as a distinct, specific scientific discipline incorporating aspects of pharmacology, physiology, and toxicology. One focus of the SPS is to foster education, research, and transmission of scientific data addressing safety of biological compounds and drugs for humans. The second focus is to foster human safety of drugs and biological compounds via experimental analysis and evaluation, specifically addressing potentially undesirable pharmacodynamic activities. The SPS also has a global vision, to unite the pharmacology community in monitoring, characterization, and identification of unwanted effects of drugs and biologicals on human systems in nonclinical trials, bridging ultimately into clinical trials.
