While in most contexts online learning and distance learning can be used interchangeably, distance learning is a broader construct and online learning is a form of distance learning that takes place predominantly online. Millions of students across the country are enrolling in formal distance learning opportunities, while millions more are taking advantage of informal and open online learning experiences to gain skills and knowledge in order to advance their careers or for personal interest.
