Engagement has been tied to positive youth development and identified as one of the most significant predictors of learning and achievement among young people. Engagement can be conceptualized as an experience that involves concentration, attentiveness, and interest, all of which are strongly related to learning. Scholars have built on these insights into engagement to emphasize the importance of what has been termed interest-driven learning in out-of-school settings.
