Educational camps are relatively short but intensive educational interventions that take place while school is not in session. These camps are run by a wide variety of different organizations, from private companies to public schools, universities, and nonprofit organizations. They may take place during the daytime or may include overnight stays. Most camps focus on positive youth development, including teamwork and learning to be independent. While some camps do this through activities (swimming, arts and crafts, etc.), educational camps focus more specifically on providing youth an opportunity to delve into a particular discipline—science, arts, writing, sports, theater, foreign language, math, and so on.
