DIY Media

DIY, or do-it-yourself, media are those tools and practices that facilitate creating new media, such as a song, an online journal, or a video game. Engaging in DIY practice involves creating, modifying, or repairing a product. DIY media can be created in both online and offline forms. The basic premise of DIY media is that individuals can learn to do and create anything themselves. The underlying ethic of DIY is self-sufficiency.

The term DIY encompasses a broad range of skill sets. The construct of DIY is intended to blur the line between creator and consumer.
