Competitive, Collaborative, and Cooperative Play
Play is one of the key activities in our lifelong learning journey. It takes different forms throughout one’s life. For children, play is often a collaborative activity engaging more than one person. Children engage in a large range of play activities with their parents, siblings, peers, and even imaginary friends. Some of these activities could be considered “free play” since rules emerge from the situation itself and the interactions that take place among the persons engaged in the situation. In other instances, play is organized around an activity with preestablished rules—play transforms into a game.
