Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is one of the largest networks of comprehensive after-school centers for youth in the United States. Begun as clubs to help keep boys off the street, the organization expanded over time and today serves close to 4 million boys and girls at more than 4,000 clubs. According to BGCA’s website, the organization’s mission is “to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens” (BGCA, Our Mission, n.d.). In addition to its community-based centers, BGCA has clubs in schools, in public housing developments, on native lands, and on U.S. military bases around the globe.
