LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer. The acronym is expanded to LGBTQIA to include intersex and asexual or allies’ identities. Lesbian refers to people who are medically labeled as women and whose emotional, physical, and/or sexual orientations are to women. Gay refers to people who describe their identity as men and whose emotional, physical, and/or sexual orientations are to men. Bisexual refers to people who are romantically and/or sexually attracted to people of more than one gender. This term is used to describe people whose identity is not monosexual but rather multisexual, omnisexual, and/or pansexual.
