Lebanon is a country on the eastern Mediterranean; this mountain-strewn coastal country is home to just over 6 million people. The mass media in Lebanon have had a diverse and influential role in Middle Eastern history. Indeed, its reach has been felt worldwide, primarily because of the far-flung Lebanese diaspora. Despite this country’s small size, the impact of its media on the Arabophone (Arab speaking) world rivals that of Egypt. The diversity of the Lebanese media reflects the especially diverse population of Lebanon and its crucial importance as a crossroads for commerce and ideas in the Middle East and beyond.
