Island Communicative Ecology

The field of island studies has been receiving attention from scholars of various disciplines as a result of islands experiencing more pronounced issues because of climate change and other geopolitical reasons. However, there is a noticeable gap in the literature about communicative ecologies specific to island contexts. There is very little in terms of literature that brings island studies and communication and media studies together in ways that provide an understanding of how unique and distinctive islands’ communication needs, systems, networks, and practices are. An island communicative ecology approach can contribute to this interdisciplinary field by mapping island issues through communicative practices.
