Hispanic film encompasses cinema from the many Spanish-speaking countries of the world. These films together represent a transnational assemblage. While they originate from varied geographic and cultural regions, their language connects them. The Spanish language, a Romance language that originated in Spain, spread to Latin America during its colonization beginning in the 15th century.
