The Czech Republic (also known as Czechia) is a country of 10.6 million people located in Central Europe. It borders Germany, Austria, Poland, and Slovakia. The majority of population is ethnically and linguistically homogenous, and the Czech language is spoken by more than 95% of the population. Significant national and ethnic minorities include Slovaks, Roma, Ukrainian, Polish, and Vietnamese. The country has been a member of the European Union since 2004.

The Czech press is dominated by seven national or regional dailies and includes some influential and popular magazines, but the sector has been struggling with decreasing circulation and the lack of growth in advertising.
