Congo, Democratic Republic of the

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), not to be confused with the neighboring country of Republic of Congo, is the third largest country in Africa in terms of population and land area, with 2,345,409 square kilometers and around 85 million inhabitants (there has been no census for more than 25 years). In 2018, the urban population was estimated at 44.5%, and 41.25% of the Congolese are less than 15 years old. The capital of the country, Kinshasa, is a megalopolis of more than 10 million inhabitants, and the two other big cities are Lubumbashi (1.54 million inhabitants) and Mbuji Mayi (1.49 million inhabitants).
