A computer network is an interconnection between electronic devices (e.g., computers, smartphones, computer tablets, e-readers, printers) which facilitates the exchange of data, resources, and information. Essentially, computer networks enable sharing.

There are several types of computer networks, each of which serves a different function and need. One type of network is a local area network that links computers together in a limited location such as within an office. Another type of network is the wide area network that covers much larger distances. The Internet, for example, can be understood as a wide area network.
