CNN is a private television network founded in 1980 by American tycoon Ted Turner. It is operated by Turner Broadcasting System, part of the multinational media and entertainment corporation WarnerMedia. WarnerMedia, formerly Time Warner, was purchased by the telecommunications giant AT&T in 2018. The central studios of CNN are located in the city of Atlanta, although the retransmissions mainly come from New York, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles. In the United States, CNN is available through cable or satellite television subscriptions and through some streaming services, such as Hulu and Sling. In 2017, 79% of American households paid for cable or satellite television, making CNN available in a majority of households.
